And, because it is set in the desert, it is literally free of tornadoes and ice storms. How to Get Around in Las Vegas

Getting around in Las Vegas can be easy. While this city is fast-paced 24 / 7, once you know your whereabouts, getting where you need to be is a breeze. There are a number of options available, including double-decker buses, and the Las Vegas monorail. The Las Vegas Monorail travels from Sahara Avenue to the MGM Grand hotel seven days per week, at various times. There is a website available for this service, so you can check the running times and ticket prices. There is also bus service available throughout Las Vegas. The fares vary, depending on the time and location. The buses on the Vegas Strip run 24 / 7. In addition, taxi cabs are also in high demand in this area, so are typically always available as well. Las Vegas is also a very walkable city. It is easy to cover a lot of ground here. So, be sure that you have comfortable shoes. You may also want to carry along a bottle of water - especially during the summer months, as it can get quite warm.

There are many neighborhoods in Las Vegas - both in the downtown area, as well as in the suburbs that surround it. So, your apartment search can be somewhat vast. But, before you set out to find the perfect Vegas apartment, it is always a good idea to first conduct some research. When you secure an apartment in Las Vegas, it is typically required that you put down a security deposit, as well as the first month's rent. This will also usually need to be accompanied by proof from your employer that you have steady income, and that your income amount is well above the amount that you need for your rent. In addition, you will also generally need your employer to prove that your income is stable. Neighborhoods in Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas

If you're into the hustle and bustle of the city lifestyle, then living in downtown Las Vegas might just fit the bill for you. Downtown Las Vegas - also oftentimes referred to as DTLV - offers many of the area's most hip and trendy bars and restaurants. It is also extremely walkable - and may even remind you a little bit of New York City - except without the cold and snowy winters.In this area you will also find some of Las Vegas history, such as the older casinos, as well as The Smith Center, an art deco style world-class performing arts center. There are also a number of neat eclectic restaurants and bars. This can be a great neighborhood for Millennials, artists, and startups.

Summerlin

Summerlin offers all of the nice amenities of being near Las Vegas, except without actually being in Las Vegas. It is known for being more on the upscale side, having several nice golf courses in the vicinity. Yet, the area is actually very affordable, with many one-bedroom units renting for under $900 per month. It can be about a 30-minute drive into the city - but the commute can be well worth it for the cost of living, as well as the awesome outdoor spaces. Summerlin can be a nice option for young professionals and those who love the outdoors, as well as families and empty-nesters.Some of the other highlights that you can find in Summerlin include the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area - which offers more than 30 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, and the Red Rock Casino, Resort, and Spa.

Spring Valley

Just west of the 15 and below Summerlin South, you will find the Spring Valley area. This locale is largely unincorporated, however, there are some retail establishments beginning to pop up. You may also find a celebrity or two strolling along in this particular area every now and then.

Queensbridge

Located in the Summerlin South area, Queensbridge is a higher end community that offers lots of privacy. Because of this, it may require a bit more cash to reside in this particular area where many of the residences overlook the Angel Park Golf Club or Tudor Park.

The Northwest

Living in the Northwest, you can actually feel like you are far enough away from the strip and downtown Vegas to be in the suburbs. Here, you will find a plethora of outdoor activities and fresh air - so, if you love green space, hiking and biking, then this may be your ideal locale.

Henderson

Henderson offers a nice array of amenities - schools, parks, libraries, shopping, and restaurants - and it is close to the Vegas airport. The area has also won a number of awards over the years, including the second safest city in America, and one of the best cities to live in America. This area is also well known for its beautiful tree lined streets, as well as for its hiking and walking trails. It is close to the Lake Mead Recreational Area, so can offer lots to do as far as water activities, as well. This can be a great area for growing families.

South / Southwest Las Vegas

The South / Southwest Las Vegas area is considered to be more of a newly developed part of town. Conveniently located close to two major highways, though, this area is just about a 15 minute drive to both the airport and to the strip. Residents here have easy access to many family owned restaurants and shops, as well as a nice open-air shopping complex. This can be a good fit for Millennials, young professionals, singles, and growing families.

City Center

City Center consists of high rise buildings and casino access - so if you really like the Las Vegas feel, you will get it here. Many of the residential lofts that are available here actually have quick access to casino floors - and the prices are somewhat steep.

Aliante

Aliante is considered to be a master planned community. Here, nestled up against the Sheep Mountains to the north of downtown Las Vegas, you will find a plethora of fresh air and a myriad of outdoor activities. Hiking and biking trails are everywhere - and this area even has its very own Nature Discovery Park.

The Northeast

Situated directly between Las Vegas and Aliante you will find The Northeast. Much of this area is actually owned by Nellis Air Force Base. However, there is still an ample amount of reasonably priced apartment housing available in this location. While there isn't a lot of nightlife or dining in this area, if you like a more quiet lifestyle, then this may be your ideal spot.

Winchester

Winchester is located just behind the Las Vegas strip. While some of the downtown revitalization projects are helping to beautify this area, there is still some work to be done here. So, prior to making any type of long-term commitment on your housing, be sure that you first take a look.
