Welcome to Plano, Texas - the ninth most populous city in the Lone Star State. Named for its flat plains, there are a plethora of beautiful trees that line the numerous city parks here - one of which is said to be more than 500 years old. The city is also known for its multitude of corporate hubs, as well as for its love of arts and culture.
Just about twenty miles northeast of downtown Dallas you will find a variety of corporate giants' headquarters such as Frito Lay, Dr. Pepper Snapple, Hewlett Packard, Toyota of North America, J.C. Penney, and Pizza Hut.

It is extremely easy and convenient to get around in Plano. The city offers access to light rail and public transit options. Plano, Dallas, and much of the surrounding areas are served by mass transit from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit, or DART. Both DART and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), as well as the area's bus services, move more than 200,000 people each and every day across the 700 square mile service area.
Because of its vast expanse of space, Plano - just like most of the rest of Texas - is primarily car-dependent. So, unlike some of the larger metro areas such as New York City or Boston, it isn't recommended that you completely do away with your vehicle if you are moving into the Plano area. This is because you will likely need your wheels to get around on the weekends - and possibly even during the week - unless you are just heading to or from the airport or to select other locations that happen to be on the light rail route.
So, what exactly is it like to live in Plano, Texas? Well, being that there is a lot of area to cover, Plano offers a lot to do! The area is also a great place for employment opportunities, given the myriad of corporate headquarters that are stationed in the vicinity.
Even though January is it's coolest month of the year, Plano will still only see low temperatures that dip into the 30s - so it doesn't see the bitter cold winters here that you would find in the more northern portions of the U.S. Because of this, residents are able to enjoy more outdoor activities year-round.
There are many options when it comes to parks and recreation centers - so, if you are into hiking biking, jogging, or even just taking nice leisurely strolls, you will be able to find your choice of scenic paths in Plano.
If you are into the arts or music scene, Plano has that too. The area also offers plenty of dining options - from the fancy to the casual - as well as clubs and nightlife. Plus, with its close proximity to Dallas, there are a plethora of options to choose from just a mere 20 minutes away. These include sports, entertainment, theatre, and more.
There are lots of great apartments in downtown Plano, as well as in the surrounding areas. But, before you head out to start looking for the ideal one, it is always a good idea to do a little research first.
When you're looking for an apartment in Plano, you will typically need to provide both a security deposit, and the first month's rent.
